Overview
254SMO is an austenitic steel designed for maximum resistance to
pitting and crevice corrosion. With high levels of chromium,
molybdenum and nitrogen, 254SMO is especially suited for high
chloride environments such as brackish water, seawater, pulp mill
bleach plants and other high-chloride process streams. In new
construction, 254SMO has been found in many cases to be technically
adequate and much less costly substitute for nickel-based alloys
and titanium. 254SMO is readily fabricated and welded.
Application
1. Ocean: marine structures, seawater desalination, seawater
farming, seawater heat exchange, etc.
2. Environmental protection field: flue gas desulfurization device
for thermal power generation, waste water treatment, etc.
3. Energy field: nuclear power generation, comprehensive
utilization of coal, tidal power generation, etc.
4. Petrochemical field: oil refining, chemical and chemical
equipment, etc.
5. Food field: salt making, soy sauce brewing, etc.
6. High concentration chloride ion environment: paper industry,
various bleaching devices

Annealing
Annealing of this material should be performed at 1149-1204°C
(2100-2200°F), which should be followed by a water quench.
Hot Working
Forging, upsetting and other operations relating to this material
can be performed at 982 - 1149°C (1800 - 2100°F). It is recommended
that temperatures do not exceed this range as it would result in
scaling and reduction in the workability of the material. To
re-attain maximum corrosion resistant properties, it is advisable
to perform post-process annealing.
Cold Working
Cold working can be carried out using all the traditional methods;
however the process would be tough due to its high work hardening
rate. The result will provide the material with increased strength
and toughness.
Package Process
1.with plastic cap to protect both ends
2.weaving bag wrapped outside the pipe
3.then pack into wooden case.
